Hello Again,The picture is again from my twenties. My friend Mary Ann and I were up in Alpine Meadows in a beautiful summer in Salt Lake City. We had a glorious day taking pictures. Everyone thought we were models for a wedding shoot. It was funny.
This blog I wanted to let you in on some health discoveries I have come across.
Crohn’s DiseaseMy family history on my mothers’ side shows a tendency to diverticulitis, colitis, colon cancer and Crohn’s disease. My grandmother struggled throughout her life with digestive system problems. Now we understand that she probably had Crohn’s disease rather than just colitis or diverticulitis. That is because my mother was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease a few years ago. Doctors’ had also misdiagnosed her disease over and over again, which made it worse. Once it was officially diagnosed her doctor told her not to do any of those newfangled diets on the Internet or she could find another doctor.
My mother was never one to buck authority as so no matter what suggestion I made she was consistent with the doctor’s recommendations for two years until she was so miserable she felt that she had to try something different.
I finally convinced her to check out this website:
www.scdiet.orgThis site has recipes and information for people who have digestive problems and things that have helped them recover. This has completely stopped the progression of her disease. Even though she will need to stick to the diet for the rest of her life this is a better alternative than being miserable and in chronic pain.
What I have learned in this process with my mother is that Crohn’s Disease is a genetic weakness in a body that does not know how to break down certain carbohydrates such as: wheat, barley, and glutens. When a person with this weakness eats these items the are unable to be broken down by the system and they become highly toxic. This then brings in the second DNA weakness. These people also have an over active immune system that reacts t anything in the small and large intestine. Causing inflammation and ulceration. Somehow even with the over-activation of the immune system the bacteria responsible for the disease seems to go undetected by the body and the body begins to attack the tissue instead.
The official explanation off the Internet of this disease is as follows:
The cause of Crohn's disease is unknown. Some scientists suspect that infection by certain bacteria, such as strains of mycobacterium, may be the cause of Crohn's disease. To date, however, there has been no convincing evidence that the disease is caused by infection. Crohn's disease is not contagious. It is thought that diet may affect the symptoms in patients with Crohn's disease.
Activation of the immune system in the intestines appears to be important in IBD. The immune system is composed of immune cells and the proteins that these immune cells produce. Normally, these cells and proteins defend the body against harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other foreign invaders. Activation of the immune system causes inflammation within the tissues where the activation occurs. (Inflammation is an important mechanism of defense used by the immune system.)
Normally, the immune system is activated only when the body is exposed to harmful invaders. In patients with IBD, however, the immune system is abnormally and chronically activated in the absence of any known invader. The continued abnormal activation of the immune system results in chronic inflammation and ulceration. The susceptibility to abnormal activation of the immune system is genetically inherited. Thus, first degree relatives (brothers, sisters, children, and parents) of patients with IBD are more likely to develop these diseases. Recently a gene called NOD2 has been identified as being associated with Crohn's disease. This gene is important in determining how the body responds to some bacterial products. Individuals with mutations in this gene are more susceptible to developing Crohn's disease.
As a result of my mothers process and the diet that I have been on I have discovered that it is possible that some of my weight problem could have been the result of a similar problem. In my High Protein Low Carbohydrate diet, I went totally off of the bad carbohydrates and glutens. My digestion sped up and my system moved more fluidly. I concluded that I probably have some of the genetic weakness without the worst of them. So I have kept most of the bad carbs out and I feel better and have more energy.
I now realize that the reason that wheat was so important to society was that it really sticks to your ribs. When I was on my diet if I had any bread I would put on weight. It was amazing. But if I ate the bread on the Crohn’s diet. I was fine.
For that reason I am including the bread recipe for the Crohn’s diet below.
Almond Bread Recipe3 Cups Almond Flour
1/4 Cup Butter
7.5 oz package of Friendship Dairy, Farmers Cheese or Dry Curd Cottage Cheese
1 teaspoon of Baking Powder
2 teaspoons of Baking Soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
Mix all together and put in muffin tins at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. If you want to do a loaf the time is approximately an hour. But check the loaf regularly as it can get dry on the surface.
You can order the Farmers cheese from Amazon.com. (Can you believe?) Or e-mail Friendship Dairy through the Internet and they will tell you who carries it in your area.
Suzanne’s Diet ProgressI have reached my goal weight. I am between 138 and 140 lbs. Yea! I am a size 8 now. I have not been a size 8 since I was a dancer. The only problem is that now I have no clothes. So I have gone through my closet and let go of a tremendous amount of old energy that is no longer serving me. I took my favorite things to the Russian seamstress and I am having some things altered. It is cheaper than buying all new clothes. But some things such as jackets are just took difficult and expensive to alter. They never look quite right either.
Through this process I have learned that the best thing for me to do in the morning is to eat 1/4 cup of Eggbeaters, 1/4 cup of onion, 1/2 cup of broccoli, 1 stick of light mozzarella cheese, and two slices of turkey bacon. Put all together in an omelet and I am good to go for the rest of the day.
Lunch is usually, three ounces of tuna, light mayonnaise, light mustard, light relish (sweetened with Splenda), and a salad, with a piece of toast.
Dinner is usually fish with asparagus.
There are variations of course but that is the basic.
My cheat is an oatmeal cookie with cranberries, walnuts, and raisins. The oatmeal has a good glycemic index and metabolizes slower.
I told my husband, John, that he gets to pick out the bikini for the beach. He is a very happy man.
I have the diet as a PDF file but I am amazed at how many times it is bounced back to me because of people’s spam filters or the filters they have at work. So if you want the diet let me know but you will need to have a new computer with newer software and probably not a work e-mail account. You can also send me an e-mail with your home address and I will send you the diet protocol by snail mail.

I will also be teaching an
“Integral Palmistry Class” on April 7-8, 2007. I am excited about this class because I have been really working on my Palmistry book and so the information is clear as concise. I have added many graphics and visual examples for the patterns in the palm. The book has been at the editor and so this will be the first class with the new and improved information. It promises to be an exciting class, so remember to sign up.
